You are welcome to join the programme at any stage, bespoke costings will be provided.

 

You can arrive in Nairobi airport and transfer directly to Wilson Airport for the internal flight avoiding the need for a hotel. You need to be at Wilson by 8.00am. Cost of transfer would be - circa U$ 20 per person - can be added to package or individually booked

 

If you are only on the Chale Island sector you should fly directly in and out of Mombasa. Turkish Air fly into Mombasa.

 

General Information on Kenya

Visas

You need a visa to enter Kenya. You can either get a visa on arrival at the airport, or before you travel. To minimise time spent queuing at the airport, get a visa before you travel. You can apply for single entry and transit visas on the evisas website. For other types of visa, apply at the nearest Kenyan High Commission or Embassy. The current cost is U$50 a for single entry visa.

 

You’ll need a visa to enter Uganda. You can apply for a visa at the Ugandan High Commission in London or apply online for an ‘e-visa’. You can find full details of how to apply on the website of the Ugandan High Commission in London. You should give yourself sufficient time to apply for a visa and make sure when applying that the start date and validity covers the period you wish to travel.

 

Ugandan immigration officers decide how long travellers are permitted to stay in Uganda when they enter the country. This is usually between 2 weeks and 3 months, and the immigration officer will normally enter a handwritten note of this period next to the entry stamp in your passport. The current cost is U$50 a for single entry visa.

 

Electricity

Supply is 220/240 v 50hz. Plugs are 3 point square.

 

Health

Vaccines recommended or suggested for travellers to Africa include those against.

 

Tetanus; Diphtheria; Polio; Typhoid; Hepatitis A; Hepatitis B; Yellow fever*; Rabies; Meningitis

*Certificate required for entry into, or travel between, some African countries.

 

Several of these vaccines require more than one dose, or take time to become effective. Seek advice on immunisation well in advance, best 6 weeks before departure.

 

Malaria: this is a disease spread by the female anopheles mosquitoes that bite mainly at dusk and at night. It is advisable that every traveller to Africa consult with their doctor before arriving. Use mosquito nets for night protection, as well using repellents during the day.

 

Liability and Insurance

Please check the validity of your insurance against personal injuries and any loss.

 

Official Language

The official languages of the Republic of Kenya are Kiswahili and English.

 

Currency

The official currency of the Republic of Kenya is the Kenya Shilling (Ksh). Major currencies like the US Dollar, British pounds and Euro are widely accepted

 

Credit cards

Major credit cards are accepted in most hotels and restaurants in the city.
